2024 COACHES
Head Coach - Matt Wheeler
Hi, I'm Coach Matt. I am looking forward to another incredible summer swim season! This will be my fifth year in a row as Head Coach of the StoneGators Swim Club. For those of you that I don't know, I cannot wait to get to know you. Until then here is some information about me.
I grew up in the Houston area and attended Langham Creek High School. While competing on the swim team, I was a Texas State Champion and All-American, and also Captain of the team for two years. After high school graduation, I attended Florida State University where I was a 4-year varsity letterman and Captain of the swim team my senior season. I also competed at the 2000 Olympic Trials. For the past 16 years I have coached a Special Olympics Swim Team and The DIVAS of Houston. For the past six seasons, I have shared in the coaching responsibilities for the StoneGators. I have two daughters (Delaney and Hadley) who both swim on the team, and a son (Wesley) who you will see running around at meets.
We have a great group of talented and knowledgeable coaches that cannot wait to have you as part of our team! My coaching philosophy is to create an environment where each member of the team can accomplish their goals, whether it be learning a new stroke or competing at the highest level. We will work hard, but most importantly we will have a lot of fun!

Assistant Coach - Wendy Wheeler
Hello Stonegators!
I am Coach Wendy and will be assisting with the coaching duties this summer. Let me share a few things about myself. I believe that everyone, especially children, need to be safe in the water. Learning how to swim while being part of a summer league team is the BEST way to accomplish this. Besides gaining important physical and social skills, children (and their families) make life-long memories and friendships along the way.
I am a retired educator of 33 years and have been involved with swimming my entire adult life. I have taught swimming to individuals of all ages and abilities.
When my boys joined summer league (NWAL) I served as a Board member and official. I developed the Cypress Fairbanks ISD Special Olympics Aquatics program into one of the largest and finest in the Greater Houston area. I still coach some of the same athletes who were 8 years old when they started and are now in their 30’s! In addition to coaching Special Olympics, I am an Aquatics trainer in Texas for the organization.
My greatest claim to fame is that I am Coach Matt’s mother and grandmother to 4 Stonegators…..Delaney, Hadley, Logan, and Lauren. I’m looking forward to meeting and working with all of you.

As a coach and a parent water safety is very important to me. I want kids to have fun but be safe at all times. As a coach my goal for every swimmer is to improve either in their stroke, turn, dive or time. As a team I hope all swimmers are encouraging one another and building strong relationships. I hope we have a FANTASTIC SWIM SEASON.
